    free standing hammock stand question

I'm planning a bicycle touring trip and hate the idea of toting my little backpacking tent to sleep in for 6 nights, so I've been looking for options for my hammock. The tour site will not have tree sites. I have my turtledog stand, but it is no way possible to haul. The tour leaders allow me 2 duffle bags on the trucks at up to 40# max each so that limits my length to haul to about 30" of my duffle bag. I looked at the ENO Nomad which is about 15#, but I am concerned about 2 things; height of my hang and length of top rail to get good slack to sleep on my diagonal. So.. My question is does anyone have experience or know of reviews on this hammock stand?

The Tensa 4 Stand weighs 11 pounds and packs to an 18 inch long package. I flew with mine in a carry-on bag.

Another vote for the Tensa 4. You can even reduce the weight further by using 2 Tensa Solo’s

Tensa4 and or Solo would work perfectly for a supported bike tour. I'd take a Solo set up for unsupported bike touring. It would easily fit in panniers.

Yes. Tensa4 (or Solo set up for unsupported touring per snowtrac's recommendation) is undoubtedly the way to go.

The only ENO stand I saw at REI was way more expensive than similar stands at Home Depot or Lowes - and it was not long enough for an 11 ft camping hammock. The Tensa4 will cost some money - but it's worth it.

However, you mentioned support vehicles. So perhaps you could get them to park in such a way that you could suspend the hammock between the cars/van. For example, I used to hunt for a site with two good trees at forest campgrounds. Then I realized that I only need one good tree near the site pull-in. I can attach the other end of the hammock to the rack on top of the Jeep.

If you need to use two cars, and they don't have racks, maybe you can get some length of webbing you run though open windows and over the roof - then close the windows most the way to the webbing. Or open the car doors on either side and run the webbing through the car and over the roof - making an anchor loop - then close the doors on the webbing. You may not have trees, but you have movable structures (cars, vans) that could offer vertical support for the hammock/tarp suspension.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Tensa4 without a doubt is the way to go. As stated above, 11# and comes in it's own bag. Toss an 11' tarp in your duffle with your hammock and quilts and you are good to go! The stand is super easy to set up especially in it's new iteration as well. We are shipping three of them and our gear out to Seattle this summer to visit family and camping the whole time to save money and well, sleep great!!
