So I've been absent from this thread a while, I've been on vacation in Florida on the Suwannee River. It was a good change of scenery but I'm happy to be back in my mountains.

Here's a pic of the crew that went with me and at least half of these will be paddling the lake during the Hootenanny and the other half will be paddling whitewater on the Nolichucky. Let me know on the spreadsheet if you plan on bringing a boat to paddle and what you'd like to do.

The hikes for Saturday usually consist of 3 different activity levels on the Roan so anyone who wants to get a group together to hike lets start planning! There are the rhododendron gardens to hike around at that's easy. And then there is Carvers Gap to Grassy Ridge or up to Roan High Knob that is mid to strenuous hikes. And please if anyone wants to throw something else out there, do it!

I have more good news and it's about the music. It's looking like we may have some folks come over from the Blue Plumb Festival in Abingdon, VA to set in and pick a while during dinner! They are called the Bluebirds and play fiddle, banjo and guitar. There are a couple others coming that will sit in as well! Soooo if you have an instrument and would like to play a tune or two we'd welcome you to join in! After all it's a Hootenanny!

I know some of you know I got a job at an outdoor school last year as a kayak instructor. I have a fantastic boss that respects all sorts of ideas we come up with for additional classes. I had a Dutch oven campfire class last month and for June he's OK'd a Hammock Camping/Tarpology Class! I've worked very hard on the outline to be a full 4 hour interactive class.
To make it easy on me I've scheduled it for Sunday at 11:00 directly after this hang right there at Blackberry since I'll already be in the perfect place to have it and already have hammocks set up.
I'm sure local folks will be the majority of my students because all you guys already know what you're doing. The good news is Dutch has agreed to be a guest speaker on suspensions so there is value in that alone even for me!
I'm excited about it so please wish me luck it will be a success!!

I need to get in the gym so I won't be suffering on the hikes! These legs are used to flat land. LOL. I can't wait to meet all of you!

You got a about a month to train Faceplant, but we'll take it easy on ya. Course you could always lollygag around camp with some of us as well.
And thanks again for the camping donation!
