The hangtime hook is great for clamping your battery block and aiming it.

It has been a while since I used that hard sided white fan and I’m pretty sure I tossed it. So I don’t remember how it compares regarding cfm output. I do remember that it was the quietest. It’s a CPU fan after all. They are designed to be quiet.

The Goal Zero fan is strong enough to do the job, IMO. And it’s more packable and won’t damage your netting if you are using a net. As far as power consumption, I never bothered testing either one for that so far.

The hard-blade fan doesnt put out much air. It feels almost like when your ac turns on at home and you can feel a very slight breeze. Just enough air movement to knock the edge off of the heat.

If you want another suggestion, these fans are the most powerful ones I tried out. Surprisingly powerful. I ordered a different brand that is no longer available, but this is apparently identical as far as I can tell. The reason I didn’t stick with them though is that it stopped working after a short while. The reason it broke is because if you actually use it as intended, meaning you bend it a lot to aim it, then the internal wiring breaks somewhere and you have to apply pressure in a certain way to get it to power up and it gets worse and worse until it’s completely shot. But if you are gentle with it and don’t bend it much or at least gently, it might last much longer.

However, they are very cheap, very strong and very light. Just not durable at all.

I love the GZ fan! I've been using it for the past few years, and just picked up another one for $10 at Backcountry.

I would echo all the things HandyRandy mentioned (soft blades, light weight, packability, power switch, etc.), and appreciate the fact that this thing actually moves some air. Not so much as to be annoying, but definitely enough to be useful.

There is something to be said for, and I do wish my setup had, the goose-neck flexibility, though.

Just noticed AHE is selling this kind of fan now. One more thing I want to point out. The blade is removable on this kind, which makes it easier to pack. The Goal Zero fan does too, but the “CPU style” fan in the OP does not break down.

Love the mitten hook / shock cord hack from the OP. I think I’ll do just that to free up room in my ridge line organizer.

The Goal Zero fan is a winner in my book. I’ve had one for about two years now, and love it. I did buy a semi stiff goose neck separately, which makes it even more versatile.
