I like to hibernate for 9-11hrs in the winter, so burning a few holes in the snow throughout the night is in inevitable even at 38 years old. Just need to not think about it; do it and get back in the hammock asap.

What down vest are you wearing, and how do you like it? Im wanting to ditch the jacket and just go with a vest.

I've got a cheapie $20 one from Costco that has held up fine over the years. 2 of my hiking buddies saw mine so I had pick them up for them. Down vest is a great addition to my kit and looking back at past trips, I've gotten a ton of use out of it.

When backpacking I wear my hiking pants, clean socks, clean shirt, and a light fleece zip hoodie by terramar. The hoodie zips up tight so it does not come off or move around like a hat does and if its really cold I add a balaclava to my head and maybe another layer to my core. When car camping I'll bring thermal underwear but still wear the hoodie. I love that thing.

What clothing do you wear when you sleep in your hammock in the woods

I like the idea of a vest. I will give my down or fleece vest a try this year.

Cotton or silk jammies and light ankle socks. Any hard/wet day paddling or hiking can be forgiven/forgotten once is clean bed clothes in a warm hammock. It is easier to wash/clean clothes then it is down. And I don't like nylon against my skin. For me, night clothes are worth the weight.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

+1 on the silk PJs - treated with permethrin to slow down the mosquitoes when I have to venture out from the bug net

Just my skin. Down OQ will reflect the heat of my body and I stay snug and warm. Only drawback is getting out of the quilt to go to the bathroom. Burrr.
