wide asym or trimmed down hex?

I have a project for slimming and trimming down my summer load out. I can almost get everything in or on my mountainsmith lumbar pack. The question is, do make up a wide asym or go with a hex that I trim a few inches of width and cut the taper slightly steeper?

    Things I am considering -

-The hex would be RSBTR membrane.
-The asym would be most likely dutchware xenon wide (@ ~75")
    -Or a little smaller with RSBTR 1.1oz silpoly wide (@ ~ 71")

If I go with the RSBTR asym, I think that would be the absolute smallest and I may have sacrificed too much. Thoughts of a storm under my old hennessy asym tarp make me want to cry...

Thoughts? I feel I may not be thinking of something....

Quite a few folks have shared stories of weathering storms under an Asym. The KitsapCowboy Glasgow KISS in comes to mind for it's versatility. I made one over the winter, in 1.1 silpoly from RBTR, as a UL option with single line suspension three sets of ridge tie out points create a larger/smaller storm flap. Weight with hardware is 10oz on the nose. Having had a HH asym, I can tell you the Kitsap asym is a spacious cavern in comparison.

I made a membrane asym a few years ago and it proved way to small for me.

If you're going to DIY, the Kitsap Asym in membrane, with bonded reinforcements, would work well for a summer UL solution.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....
