    Hello from the Twin Cities!

    Hey all,

Just joined the other day and wanted to say hello.

Up until a year ago, I had no clue hammock camping was a thing, but then I ran across a video on YouTube of Shug doing his thing. Then, I watched a whole bunch more of his (and other people's) videos... then I picked up The Ultimate Hang 2... now I just need to pick up some gear and find some time to get out to the woods!

Hope to see y'all out there!

Welcome to the forum. Great place to learn and be inspired. You could find a good deal on great gently used gear to get started.

Welcome to the forums, Bigby. Cool avatar, by the way. You're starting out right if you've already bought Derek's book. I read it all the way through when I first got it and still refer to it. Have fun shopping for gear and don't hesitate to ask questions. You'll get some opinionated answers, no doubt about it.
    Cheers.

    Welcome fellow Twin Citien!
You have a good start and you will have fun but there is a lot to learn. Listen to the good advice here . . . then get out there and see what works for you. Some advice is great for some folks and not as much for others. That's part of the fun of this hobby/lifestyle.

Welcome, we're actually getting together this saturday at Rise Bagel Co. and then hang by the river, if you're free.

Hangers in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area: some of us are having a hammock gear/bagel smear Saturday March 30th 10:00 AM at Rise Bagel Co. 530 N 3rd St, Minneapolis, MN 55401

Nothing formal or fancy, just some folks who like to hammock getting together to show and tell hammock stuff, ideas, techniques. It started when I put out the question on the Hammock Forums looking for other more experienced hammockers in my area to learn from and a few people responded that they would be willing to get together and share what they know.

Let me know if you want to join us!

I appreciate the invite, not sure I can make it though. We're in the last couple weeks before my wife has our second baby, and there are a lot of preparations to finish up. Have fun, tho!

On second thought, I'm going to try and be there, at least for a while.

    Welcome to the forums!

I live in Milwaukee and a number of Minnesota folks have traveled across state lines to attend a hang in Wisconsin. The closest hammock hang (I know of) to you is during Memorial Day weekend - about 3 hours from you.

    Here's the link: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...y-Weekend-2019

I've learned TONS from attending hangs and met cool people too. Hope to meet you at one of these events!
