At this point I think I'm going for the 20degree Premium burrow paired with a 20degree Premium Incubator. It will be 491.99 for each set but it sounds like I won't have buyers remorse. Also all that will only be 38.2ozs and I don't think I could be comfortable with a pad for less weight.

I have EE TQ and UQ. Love them both. I haven't had issues with my baffle system but I can see it happening. I also have an econ Phoenix. After seeing and using both.... I think I prefer Hammock Gear. I have zero experience with Underground quilts or Locolibre.

I am a strong believer that an UQ is just all around better in a hammock.

You'll probably be quite happy. I've got six HG quilt sets (40*, 20* and 0*) so I obviously like their products!

I think you made a good choice, and would additionally suggest going with 10D shell inside and out. I have found 10D to be plenty durable and it has a much larger effect on compressibility (compared to a heavier shell) than the difference between 850fp and 950fp down.

That reduced volume might also permit you to use a smaller, lighter pack.

I was just going to say why waste your money on a pad when you can buy HG's econ UQ?? You guys in the great USA are so lucky to be able to get gear at an inexpensive price unlike us Canucks here in Canada! Buy the UQ and drop the pad...

You will need a pad for the hiking thru the Smokies. EE and Hammock Gear both make great gear and I have used their gear for many years.

We are planning to visit relatives in NC this summer and hiking in the smokies but why "the need for a pad hiking thru the Smokies"? Are you not allowed to hang from the trees?

You're required to stay in the shelters, unless they are already full.

Yes, the Smokies have some unnecessarily cryptic regulations. This is my understanding of the rules: If you're a thru-hiker, you're required to stay in the shelters--unless the shelter is full, in which case you have to set up your tarp/hammock in the vicinity of the shelter area. If you're a section-hiker, you're required to reserve your spots in the shelters and aren't permitted to set up tents/hammocks whatsoever. Here's the best part: If you, as a thru-hiker, come upon a shelter that has space available, not only are you required to camp there--you're required to relinquish your spot in the shelter to any section-hiker who rolls into camp with a reservation. It's one thing to require hikers to stay in the vicinity of the shelters, but these rules are unrealistic.
