Where to put the little things

I recently bought a new Dutch netless hamock to replace my ENO. The ENO had the pouch attached to the hammock that it stuffed it’s self into. I used that handy pouch to keep items I might need overnight like my headlamp, phone, ect. I need to come up with something to store those things in now that I don’t have that pouch that will be easy to access in the dark. I don’t use a ridgline, so a ridgeline organizer is out. Any ideas?

Shug posted a special video today just for you! Check it out:

Regarding the lack of a ridgeline, they are cheap and easy to install on any hammock and well worth it. Almost any cordage will suffice, you just want to make it close the right length, which is typically around 83% of your total hammock length when pulled straight.

If you don't use a hammock ridgeline you can simply tie a piece of string from tree to tree. I use braided nylon mason twine.

Not having a ridge line doesn't mean you can't add a ridge line if you want. If you don't want, that's another story. Just know the ridge line can be "structural" or not. The difference is, if it is structural, that means it is strong enough (like Amsteel) to hold any weight transferred to it. If it is non-structural, then it can be just some light cord and you are careful enough not to set your suspension so that cord is guitar string tight. Other than that, depending upon the weight of the item (phone/sunglasses, etc.) you could wooden clothes pin a small bag to the side of the hammock.

If you add a ridge line, remember that it is connected right at the hammock ends - under any tarp - so it doesn't become a highway for water when it rains.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I had Dutch add one of those Eno-style stuff sacks on the side. Not to stuff the hammock, but smaller just to hold the stuff you mention. And it's a perfect spot at arm's length to reach down and get stuff during the night.

And being tucked in between the hammock and UQ, it stays warm, so my phone, batteries and contacts don't freeze.

You can sew one on, or probably send it to a cottage vendor if you don't want to DIY.

Yeah, you might get a lot of flack for not having a ridgeline on here..... haha BUT the best alternative is to get a Gear Hammock to suspend below (or anywhere else really) your hammock. SLD has a great one and can even be made with Silnylon for a more water resistant option. There is also a Peak Shelf that you can maybe just fold back on itself and hook it on where it attaches. I like this one because I hate wasted space and I always know which side is my feet side. Also depending on the size of the hammock and spacing inside, you can have one on each end of the Hammock.

    Hope this Helps!
PS: Sorry Shug, I didn't watch your video until after I posted this.........
