Why would your straps be 12 feet off the ground? You should consult the Hammock Hang Calculator.

Your anchor points would need to be 36 feet apart to require the straps to be 12 feet high (if you want a 30* hang angle). Something sounds amiss in your calculations.

Best huggers for extended outdoor exposure

I'm not calculating; I'm exaggerating. I'm just looking for ideas on straps, really.

I should add to this, to clarify: the branch from which I'll probably hang my head end goes up and inward (toward the shed) at a steep angle. I can usually get near the angle I want with completely vertical trees by eyeballing the distance and making some tweaks here or there. In this case, raising the head end also means shortening the suspension on that end, so the hang calculation gets a little goofy.

The branch is at least 14" in diameter on a healthy tree.

There are lots of strap options available theses days. None of them are going to hold up to long term weather and UV exposure. They will degrade and weaken as time goes by. Knowing how long they may last is completely a guess. Even steel chain rusts and would eventually fail.

I'm still using the first set of tree straps, bought from Mr Gibson many years ago, and they have spent plenty of time outside in the sun. I've noticed they are slightly stiffer than fresh ones but I see little cause for concern. It wasn't uncommon early on for me to leave things set up for a week at a time, kids would read in the hammock during the day and I would fiddle with it at night.

If you're looking for a recommendation I guess that's mine. Never had a problem with AHE tree straps and I have a few pair.
