Don't be afraid of partial length quilts. I bought my first UQ this year and went with the Hammock Gear Econ Phoenix (20 degree) since it seemed like the best, lightest quilt for the price (was between the Phoenix and synthetic version of the EE Revolt). Quite affordable, saves weight and bulk, and has a pretty fast learning curve. I took Shug's advice and use a footpad in the foot box of my topquilt (also a 20 degree HG). With this setup, I was quite toasty at 40 degrees with just long underwear, wool socks, and an acrylic hat and I'm a fairly cold sleeper on backpacking trips. Even at 6'1", it covers down to my calves, which didn't get too chilly - probably would be fine with a fleece or puffy underneath in colder weather.

Hammock Gear also makes very nice down quilts. They have premium and economy models. Both use the same construction, but the Econ series uses slightly lower fill-power down (800fp), and slightly heavier fabric.

Warbonnet is known for their Wooki quilts- which are designed like a secondary hammock with no side channels. This keeps the quilt from pressing inward on the sides- restricting the diagonal lay. Although the Wooki is designed for Warbonnet's own hammocks, they can work with pretty much any gathered end hammock with minimal modifications.

I'd also take a look at Cedar Ridge Outdoors. They are newer to the quilt market, but seem to be putting out very nice products.

If you're interested in synthetic underquilts, Arrowhead Equipment has been in that game for many years, have a good reputation, and offers a fast turnaround time.

Another synthetic option is Simply Light Designs Trail Winder UQ. It is designed to hang like a secondary hammock- similar to the Wooki. SLD's turnaround times are lightning fast- especially for fully custom gear. I'm talking you order custom gear, and it is made by hand and shipped in 2 days kinda fast!

My quilts are from Loco Libre Gear. Unfortunately, they had to suspend taking orders for a little while- due to personal health reasons. Their gear is excellent, however. Hopefully they will begin taking orders again soon.

Good luck in finding what you're looking for!
Great list for folks who are interested in quilts. You can't go wrong with any of those vendors Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. I handle customer service at HG.

I don't see anyone mentioning Enlightened Equipment underquilts. I think they are great and own a couple(20 degree-75in and 30 degree-65in) as do my friends. Very well made(normally in about 5-6weeks) very very lightweight and I used one all winter and I was warm and cosy every night.

I also own a 20 degree Wooki for my blackbird xl and that too is excellent although i don't think the attachment is as user friendly as on most others I have tried. It is designed for the blackbird though so I guess that's why.

I also have a 40 degree econ Hammock Gear incubator. This is surprisingly warm for it's rating and because they use slightly heavier materials, it feels tough and seems it would take a lot of wear and tear, plus $100 dollars cheaper than most others. My only thing I would change on this is to make it a couple of inches wider, it does the job though don't get me wrong it's just I am used to the 45in width from Enlightened Equipment.
A true optimist is someone that plants two acorns and buys a hammock.

I assume you already got an UQ by now? If so, what did you get, and have you been happy with it?

I saw very little mention( 1 mention in post #5) of the company that may have been the first commercial UQ producer, and may have been the inventor of the dif cut UQ, JRB. ( I think it is debatable whether JRB or WB was first on the dif cut. If memory serves, they both came out with the concept at roughly the same time. So I am not certain on that one)

You will have to search long and hard to come up with any threads with complaints about JRB UQs. One of the greats among several excellent manufacturers. Also famous for fast shipping of in stock gear and excellent customer service. They have been here since the beginning of the UQ/TQ for camping hammocks game.
