So not to be misleading to you Minnesota guys, but in the Northwest, single digit temps are about as cold as we get. Normally it dips into those temps for about a week, once every year.
As we hit the trail, the snow was really deep as expected and the going was tough. Someone has came in on a snowmobile during the snow storms and so if we were in the tracks, the walking was a little easier. We switched off cutting in the trail. About 2 miles in, we were getting tired and wearing out. We almost settled for a camp that would not have any sun exposure, but we decided to keep pressing on. A little over 3 miles in we found our spot.
The first night was not too bad. Val's under quilt was not sitting right on her hammock and she experienced some cold spots during the night, but overall it was good. We got up the next day and after coffee, we gathered some wood for our fire that night.
We changed our tarp configuration and move Val's hammock a little closer and got the under quilt on there properly. I went on a little hike after all of that farther up the trail. I went about a mile further and was happy to see that we took the best spot in that area.
The second night was much colder than the first night. We both stayed plenty warm, but we could tell that it got close or below the forecast temperature at 0ºf.
The hike out was glorious. It was cold, but once we warmed up from the hike, it was as good as you can hope for.
Thanks for watching!!
