WEST PAPUA : Hammocking expedition in remote beautiful areas

The winter sang its last song and that means to change an environment. Long time ago planned expedition to remote archipelago called Raja Ampat in West Papua. And to be more adventurous we incorporated hammocks into this trip, which allows us to spend less money on accommodation /with locals - no hotels/ and spend a little bit more on transport /boat and very expensive oil/.

I contacted a guy through the internet months before we started, to get the things organized well. So one boat, two boys who will cook and be our guides on the journey. We dont dive, but this place is a diving destination. But what one can see here just snorkeling is just amazing. Rich marine life everywhere, just everything what we saw on TV. We always travel with our two children, and this one was their olympic match

Suddenly we are approaching our first little island to spend a night. It was 9 days, not going to write it down day by day, just few pictures if I may.

I didnt really expect to find pine trees over here. But hey.... much better than coconut over your head

The food was always fun. We always knew what is coming. Fish and rice with eggplant

One has to choose the place to hang a bit deeper in the beach, as the high tide comes quite close all over the sand.

Collecting shells was everyday fun on long long abandoned beaches

    Morning calling, breakfast ready

You see how the locals make their hammock stand

Next time I will definetely ask for a boat with roof ... the sun is really overkill

After long days with salt water only, freshwater waterfall is well welcomed !

    And more hammocking ...

There are not many tourist coming here and there was a lot of fun with locals too

Sometimes you just need to find another island... no hammocking here

The locals often build shelters for tourists too. They call them homestay. Charging about 20 USD a night, you have meals, water, coffee, tea and bed with mosquito net.
They are built over the water or well hidden under the tree.

Another fresh water cave to dip in and wash the salt

Besides rich coral reefs, this area is untouched inland too, primary rainforest with lots of birds, reptiles and insects. Mayalibit bay is one of those beautiful places, and one can find here beautiful landscape.

Refresh in a blue colored river, sweet water again

The nature, forests, like hundreds years ago ...

Good to see the kids experiencing different cultures while traveling & hanging with their parents.
Location is a tropical paradise....thumbs up.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.
