The paddle adventures that you have should give you good memories, like ducking deadfall, chasing wooden canoe paddles (RIP), bushwacking and getting lost because of ridiculously high water, having crackers with spicy tuna and hot chocolate with cayenne pepper under a tarp in the rain, things like that.
Don't be traumatized by a dunk into 32 degree water, not worth it.

Pretbek, Where have you been hiding? We missed you at the Pumpkin Hang. Come up north sometime get away from all that warm good weather down there.

    Thanks much, guys!
I paddled the Mullica last spring in the front of electbc's 18' boat (trip report here). The river was tight for that vessel - and for the ocean kayak another paddler brought. NJRedneck was able to navigate without getting out of his short-wide kayak but none of the rest of us could. I think he was mostly stubborn. I had a great time and learned a lot paddling water far different than any I'd paddled in the past.

If you're not a lot stiffer than you look, you will probably make it fine if your OK with some improvised portage. Definitely compare the water levels to other reports.

Are you planning to go solo?

We have a convert. A friend just ordered his first hammock and is planning on paddling the Mullica March 30. I don't know if I can make it but I will try to get him to register on HF and post on trip planning in case anybody is interested. Any word on a NJ Hammock club trip this spring? Oh and Dave, the ADK forum is planning a spring campout/Paddling the weekend before Memorial Day no tripping, state C.G with hot showers.

I’m In Mullica camp right now, and a couple guys said they paddled down from Atsion, and that someone came and cleared the whole way - didn’t have to get out of the boat once. They did it last year and it took them 5 hours, and yesterday they did it in under 2 hours, including a lunch break. So that’s promising. Not sure what the bottom half looks like though.

Sounds like the Batsto is still a hot mess, but Mullica is good to go.

    GBD,

I was planning on my wife and I taking our packraft.

Just checking Atsion future forecast (not so good but makes me happy about tripping) looks to hit the 60's a few times next week with low in the 40's.
I'm probably bringing a solo royalex. Last time I took a tandem royalex and packed it to the gunnels! I tend to bring the kitchen sink. Will keep you updated,

One night Dave. Leave the sink at home but do bring the Water Closet, the outhouses at Mullica stink.

Sounds like that could work. I haven't had the honor of meeting your better half - but if she's able to hop out of the boat and drag it a bit, I think you'll be good.
