What to do with my pack?

I’ve spent a night here and there at my brothers house in the last month and a half cause he’s got trees and I wanted to set the hammock up and spend the night temperature testing my system. And now it’s nearly time to head down the trail (The Gerard Trail in Oil Creek State Park, PA). What to do with my backpack? I have a pack liner and because I’m me, I also have a pack cover for what it’s worth. My tarp is a HG tarp with doors. I saw that Shug also uses a smallish piece of plastic to lay on the ground where you would swing your legs out and stand up. I don’t remember if he puts his pack on top of that. And what about wind driven rain... thanks for you help.

I use a trash compactor bag to keep my contents dry. At night if I expect weather I put my pack in the compactor bag and lay it under the tarp.

Since you have a pack cover why not hang it on a tree? I use a length of glowire with a loop on one end and a mini biner on the other. Around the tree, thru the loop then thru the loop on your pack and clip it to itself. If you have a camp chair put it on that under your tarp. Lots of options, get out there and I'm sure you'll figure out the best option for you.

Carabiner it to your hammock suspension - if it will be under the tarp. Or put it on your ground sheet under the hammock. Remember to keep food separate so "nothing" is encouraged to chew into it.

What to do with a pack

I put it on the ground sheet under my hammock in a contractor trash bag. I have never had a problem with it.

I carry a piece of TYVEK roughly 5'x7". It was cut as a ground cloth for a backpacking tent and while it is bigger than I need, it isn't too big to get utilized several times a day when hiking. At night I put my pack on the Tyvek underneath my hammock then flip the Tyvek over top the pack. Food goes somewhere else, I don't need critters chewing through my pack... again.

Pack on a piece of Tyvek under the hammock. Never had a problem with blowing rain.

If you have a pack cover, it doubles as a ground sheet for the pack. Just flip it over.

In fair weather without the pack cover, just clip entire bag to the suspension line. Then you get built in cup holders.
