I had the same issue myself...in the end, just went with a bit more coverage with the Thunderfly.

Check out hanmockgear; they are having a sale on the quest and the journey...one of those is comparable to the superfly

Since you’re new I’d say either way go with more coverage.

Down the road if you want to upgrade you’ll probably go minimal, but more coverage is often awesome for peace of mind.

Make your decision and know either way it was a good one

Thanks for the replies. I think the more coverage is the safe bet. Went with the thunderfly

I'd go for a thunderfly in your situation. it's a tad bit bigger and not significantly heavier. it has panel pulls which you could experiment with - I have enjoyed my tarps with panel pulls.

Good decision....because nobody ever regretted being dry in the rain! Worth the few extra ounces, in my opinion.

    Big tarp always comes first.

1 time was all it took w/ sideways rain, my down getting soaked and my weekend ruined to realize I would NEVER use a small or doorless tarp ever again. Doors can always be tied back. A few more ounces and a few more $$ to have peace of mind.

Experience has done the same for me when it comes to stakes. MSR Groundhogs for me from now on.

I have the Thunderfly. Love it but my next one will be a Mountain fly or Superfly. Here in North Carolina we will soon need a Submersifly at the rate we are going.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
