Hammock Gear Cuban Winter palace with doors on left
    Standard Nalogene bottle in middle
Hammock Gear Standard Cuban tarp without doors on right.
Hopefully that helps a little for camparison.
P.S.. Both tarps are packed with repair tape, all guy lines and all stakes needed to hang..

My tarp always rides on the outside of my pack, so volume isn't a factor.

...and I personally don't think it's too bulky. If you have all your gear dialed in, it will pack just fine. Though I do think it's overkill for nice weather, you could easily still use it if you had it.. Personal choice, that's all.

Massive. My standard is more like yours but the palace is huge.

Outside or inside, big is big. All that said, I’m coming from asymmetrical tarps and 15d hex which were oh so tiny and malleable. Some adjustment is needed. My kit is very dialed. Adding the cuben was very noticeable.

Ok ok.. It's not asymmetrical size for sure! Lol. Perhaps it is big.. But for what it is.. It is some serious protection, especially for winter or torrential down pours.

Thanks this does help. Two friends switched from the Superfly to the standard with doors. One was OK with it and one misses the coverage. My pack is usually not full so the extra volume can be tolerated.

L to R, 11' HG Cuben Hex, no doors, no skins.
11' WB Super fly, stock bag, no skins.
    11' HG Winter Palace w/doors, w/cuben skin.
    12'x 12' modded HG Standard w/doors, w/mesh skins.

-- The Superfly is in it's stock bag and can be squished down even further. All others are non stock bags and thats about their packed size.

I really appreciate the comparison photos and pics that show packed size in this post.

Though a DCF tarp is out of my budget at the moment, it's something I've considered saving up for. The visual comparisons have made it easier to focus on other priorities for now.

At this point, less volume is more important to me than saving a little weight because I mostly motorcycle camp and/or take shorter hikes for only a few days. Space in my motorcycle luggage is a bigger challenge than carrying a few extra ounces.

A most instructive post. Thanks to you wily veterans and photo sharers out there.
