Car camp- Between Chattanooga and Knoxville-

Making the trip to Grayson Highlands again; amazing place! Does anyone know of somewhere to car camp, near the interstate, between Chattanooga and Knoxville? Tempted to cut the drive in half if we can find an easy place to stop.

Looking at the map, the only green spaces anywhere near the interstate are golf courses. They probably frown upon stealth campers, but you’d find water.

Nice, can even get in a few morning holes in! Did find this:

    Not optimal, but an option.

We stayed at the Chillhowee Recreational area campground (35°09'08.0"N 84°36'31.0"W) as a midway stop returning from Florida to Ohio. We staid 2 nights and trail hiked the area. It has some nice features too. It's 30 miles off the interstate and it'll take 45 min. Also, if you do this do not go google's route. It'll take you on old gravel 1 lane roads up the mountain. Not fun pulling a trailer... after driving 12 hours... in the dark. Instead stay on 74 to the mid point on the lake then turn North. This road is paved and wide enough for 5th wheels and motor coaches.

The camp is an old CCC camp or something, nice stone work.

Harrison bay SP is only 14 miles & 20 mins from I75. also Prentense State forest has camping. Do a quick google search. Should find lots of options.

Finally a typing in campgrounds in google maps while in the area of interest showed 5 campgrounds that are right on the highway, and many many others near by. Most of these are RV lots. Not sure what you desired criteria is outside of near interstate between Chat and knox.
