    New Hammock Arrived!

I'm really looking forward to my first trip using my new WB BB and Mountainfly tarp. Going to spend a day at a local park getting everything set and then headed to the mountains for my first trip!IMG_20190305_171148291.jpeg

That sounds exciting. Great hammock and tarp set up. I hope you find them beyond your expectations. Welcome to the club.

Do you have quilts yet? If not you really want to test your insulation setup before venturing out in the wild.

Sure do, I have a AH JB 3S, which will be backed up with a foam pad and a small AH pad for the foot box in the Blackbird.
Will be using my North Face, Cats Meow 20deg bag until my quilt gets here.
The temps will be in the low 30' s, should be good to go, if not it will be a cold night, not the first time! Lol.

Thanks for the Info. It's great to hear all of the input and suggestions!

    Thanks Shug!
I have read and watched that stuff a million times!
Your videos have been the biggest help in my research switching from a tent to hammock, plus a whole lot of laughs!

Well back home from my first trip and all I can say, it was a long night.
Stayed warm, the problem was comfort and mobility while sleeping.
I am a pretty restless sleeper and I just couldn't take the confined feeling.
The gathered end hammock(Blackbird) is not going to work for me.
I'm not quitting, going to sell it and try a Ridge Runner.

Before you completely give up on the Blackbird, maybe try a couple more nights here and there? It sounds almost silly to talk about learning how to sleep, but that's what I had to do at first, at least in a hammock. It was much more comfortable than lying on the ground, but comfort didn't immediately translate to perfect sleep. I had to get used to it, or let my body do so, I suppose.

Still, my wife has a Ridge Runner and loves it. I've got a different bridge hammock and like it a lot too. But again, hammock sleeping takes some learning. The main thing I like about my bridge is the total lack of calf ridge. It is more tippy and tempermental than my gathered end and harder to insulate well, so I doubt I'll ever abandon the gathered end stuff. But if you do decide on a Ridge Runner, you'll love the features. It's a well thought out system.
    "...the height of hammock snobbery!"

It was really a frustrating night and I ended up sleeping in my truck.
I think one of the main issues was using my sleeping bag in the hammock, it was really tough trying to get it, and myself situated. I do have a top quilt on order with a sewn in footbox, maybe that will help.

I will try the Blackbird again with a topquilt, but I will take my tent so I am better prepared in case it doesn't.
