Good trails in WI for Snowshoe, pulk, dispersed camping?

Finally built a pulk yesterday and ordered snowshoes today with my REI dividend. So, before all this snow melts, where are some good trails right now in WI for snowshoe pulking?

Depending on how far you wish to travel you could consider the Black River Forest.
I did a winter backpacking trip there 3 years ago, dispersed style. Get a back country permit ahead of time.

    Trail info, including snowshoe trails.

This forest allows primitive (dispersed) camping. See info here.

If you want a longer drive...
Many years ago we winter backpacked in Blackjack Springs Wilderness. NE of Eagle River. Details are sketchy. What I do remember is the trail was difficult to locate (at that time 15+ years ago). And we didn't see any springs. Nor did we play any blackjack. But it was a good time with pals in the woods.

    Enjoy your new gear!

My prior experience at Black River State Forest was that water was hard to find. Thinking about going to the Jones Springs area in the national forest.

If your going this time of year you will need to melt snow for water as most will be frozen more than likely. Especially in Wisconsin.

BRSF should be good, this late in winter it might be hard to find an area without trails that are tracked and frozen. Can be a pain to pull a pulk on established trails with random tracks. It's not far from you so a great place to play with the new toys!

Jones Springs is a wonderful area to explore. Last time I was there with snow the locals were walking it, so it might be less than ideal for the pulk.

As Shug said, you'll be melting snow so finding water won't be an issue. Get out with the new gear and have fun!!!

North country trail west of Mellon WI. In the Nicolet Forest. Dispersed camping is allowed without a permit.
