HG Dyneema Daisy Chain Straps with Carabiners Continuous Loops

    Hey all,
I have been looking at ways to make set-up a little quicker/modular, and maintain an ultralight set-up. What are your thoughts on the HG Dyneema Daisy Chain Straps at a 10-13' length (to handle litterally anything), continuous loops on the hammock, and a carabiner to connect the two?

I am currently using Whoopies & standard nylon tree straps, so the weight savings is minimal. If I get some positive responses, I'll pull the trigger, make the mods on a hammock, and write a review.

    Thanks all,
    Chemist

I have used variations of straps w/ J-Bend for the last few years. That said, I couldn't resist trying your referenced setup during the recent sale. I bought 22' (cut in half) of the strap w/two 'biners.

Heavier than I'm used to but simpler. What the heck. Looking forward to trying it.

The good is simplicity and no/minimal adjustment once you load the hammock. The cons are weight and less micro-adjustability - but that is minimal.

By the time you add carabiners to the mix, I doubt you would experience any weight savings. You may be better off keeping the whoopie sling setup, but purchasing lighter Dyneema straps. And you can order some Evo Loops from Myerstech Hammock Lab- which can be used to eliminate the toggle and provide a direct connection between your hammock and whoopies.

Myers tech does a lighter dynaglide daisy chain that you can use with his evo loops, without carabiners : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-mC...IPudpvxKLcMh1g . I find it quite convenient.

That is the setup I currently use. I was previously using same setup, but with ENO straps, and picked up the HG Dyneema straps (2x10') during their recent sale. I use the CAMP 23g carabiners in this setup so there is not much weight penalty over whoopie slings. I just run the strap through the first loop at the tree, so no additional hardware on that end. Works great for me, and I like the simplicity. Also allows me multiple connection points along the straps to hang things like my backpack.

Good point! I could use daisy chain on the head end and hang my backpack and/or other gear in the loops and beatle buckles on the foot end.

    Ultralight?

Daisy chain webbing automatically weighs at least twice as much as the same webbing not doubled up. A pair of amsteel Evo loops weighs about 6 grams and can replace carabiners for virtually any hammock-related application.

That said, in many situations even Evo loops are not needed... straps can be threaded thru sewn end loops or tied to the tree with a slipped buntline hitch or other knot.

I just received my Myers Tech Dyneema straps and Evo Loops and I gotta say I'm duly impressed. Impossibly lightweight and small. Can't wait to try them out.

I'll probably use the Evo loops separately and not with the straps. Nice to have options and carrying Evo loops is like carrying air.
