Ideas on how to seal The Journey tarp ridgeline

    Morning all,

Once it warms up, I wish to seal my 12 foot, HG, "The Journey" Tarp, along its ridge line. I already did the pullouts but I forgot the ridge line.

I dont have a lot room in the house or the shop. However, if that is the only option, I can make room. If done this way, do I lay it on the floor and then run a bead?

Or, should I stake the tarp out on the ground, flat, with the inside of the tarp facing up?

Or should I pitch it, as if I am setting it up over the hammock, but place it inside out?

I was also thinking of setting out my saw horses with a 4 X 8 piece of plywood, as a table. I would then cover that table with a blanket, to avoid snagging or tearing the tarp fabric.

As per the video produced by UGQ ( Under Ground Quilts), I am going to use Permatex, flowable, silicone, windshield and glass sealant. Ill run a bead and then go over the bead, with a foam brush.

Any and all ideas are appreciated.

    Be safe.

    Bob

I just did one of my giant Kelty tarps. I set it up so the ridgeline was about chest high then pulled both sides the same direction (imagine a lean-to). Whichever edge you want to seal (underside or top) just have that facing out and apply the sealant.

I just bought one and the instructions on the card that came with it said pitch it inside out to seal it. I don’t think you need to stake it out.

    Thanks guys.

Zuki are talking like making an A frame type configuration?

DrPhun how would I pitch it without staking it out?. Are you talking just tying off each end of the ridgeline and running a bead down the center?

Thanks for the post. I ordered a Journey. I plan to pitch it inside out to seal (when it gets here).

You definitely want to anchor at least the ends. I sealed my last tarps ridge line in my living room with the tarp laying on the floor and it was a pain to crawl around and attempt this with the tarp moving even though I had weights on each end of the tarp.

I normally just tie off the ridgeline in the garage. Same as I do when I return from a trip and it is wet. Normally I use a brush for sealing. This is what they sent with it:

I just did both of my Journey tarps today. Was not incredibly warm, but slight breeze and sunny. I hung out side in the AM and applied per instructions. Took down after 7hrs, but still very tacky, so hung in garage. Now I'm wondering if I should not have waited for a warmer day, but from a quick search it seems normal dry time is 3 days.
