I hate to sound like a broken record but what you need does change on your necessity and location. General travel - Grand Trunk 14er daisy chain. Backpacking - DIY Webbing Whoopie sling combo. Only weighs 4 oz and are 10 feet long each. Basically like Whoopie Hook suspension from dutch. Except Mine cost $10 or less to make. It's just as easy, if not easier and more accurate, than the Daisy chain setup.

Does anyone out there mix and match suspension? Hugger and whoopie sling on one side, straps and buckle on the other, that sort of thing?

As a newb I've done so in my house hang simply to familiarize myself with the various options.

Mike here, with a bad knee and hip, hiking is a speck in my rear-view mirror of life. I’m now strictly a kayak or car camper so weight is not an issue in my book. But I do like simplicity with little to no fiddling with. So, in the sprit of simplicity rather than reposting here I’ll just link you to my latest version of my type of setup. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2473...action_generic

Daisy chain or webbing from a ratchet strap and use a marlin spike hitch when the strap get to sticky from pine gum ( I hang in primarily pine forests so lots of pine sap) I just replace it.

For my hammock, I use an ADutchable clip on my 6' strap -> a 6' single line of 7/64 Amsteel Lead -> Dutch Speed Hook -> CL -> hammock. It's very fast to connect to tree while at the same time allowing me to still fiddle and tinker with all sorts of adjustments to play with, because I'm a tinkerer.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Isopropyl alcohol also works great on pine sap.
