    Removable 6x6 hammock set up

    Hello everyone,

I have been searching and searching the entire UK for 6x6 sleeves for timber posts to create a removable hammock set up in my back garden. The plan is to bury the sleeves 3ft deep in concrete. So far, the only sleeves for posts that I have been able to find are 4x4s.

I wonder if anyone else have done removable posts using 6x6 posts in the uk and how they have managed this, please?

    Thank you all.

Those 6x6 posts are awfully heavy. Do you really want to be putting those up and taking them down???
Maybe you'd be better off making the 6x6 post into some gazebo like item. I've seen some posted on the forums that were quite pleasing to the eye. just a thought...

There's an inherent problem with sleeves for timbers. To start with, they are not all milled to the same dimensions, and as a bonus, they grow and shrink with the weather. Sorry to rain on your parade, but the above member makes a good suggestion.

Thank you both for your suggestions, I will have a look around the forum for the gazebo types and make 4 posts instead of 2. Also, the heavy point is a good one that i had not thought about.

4x4 posts are adequate if you put a brace between the tops of the posts. A search of the forums will turn up all sorts of discussion and ideas related to backyard hammock hanging.

Here's one for a Pergola. Hope this helps. I don't know if you were able to find anything in the search because I have a TERRIBLE time searching anything on this site. I usually come up with nothing.

Again, thank you for your responses. I have ordered the 4 treated 6x6 timbers and these are all going to be buried tomorrow. The handyman/builder believes concrete/sharp sand/ballast will be enough to keep the concrete sturdy and rot free as he believes water will not go in. However, a lot of people are recommending some gravel! The concrete or gravel issue is what I am unsure about now!

Good luck YungFizzy. Please post a picture of your project when done.
I put 2 6x6's in my backyard. I used cement and stone for mine.

Thank you all for the resources available on the site and the community. I managed to get 5 3m long 6x6 posts. I added 1 extra post in the middle at the back to allow me and the family use 3 hammocks at once. All the 6x6 posts are burried at 1m deep with rocks below to allow drainage and then concrete.

The posts are untreated and I plan to paint this in the next week or so. I am also planning to put a sheet on the posts to make it somewhere I can seat when the hammocks are not hung.

I have attached the picture as of this morning.

    Thank you all.
