How well do the nets that go around the hammocks work in comparison to the built in style? It seems there is normally a lot of bugs out when I'm out. Only times there isn't is when I go early spring, but without a proper UQ I don't think that will happen yet.

CBS Cold Butt Syndrome—insulation is required both top and bottom. If you start with a pad for bottom insulation—get a pad WIDE enough to keep your shoulders warm and to keep you from sliding off while asleep.
If you have enough money get underquilt and topquilt for maximum comfort and warmth. Possibly a 20 degree set—top and bottom quilts.
If you don’t have enough money at beginning—do asbestos you can—and no one will fault you for getting out in piney woods in your hammock!
I have a foam pad for a basic bottom insulation and a 20° bag for top. Have another old 0° bag that Iay try to convert into an underquilt later on.

Welcome Amaas! I am in NW Oh as well. I’d be happy to get get together sometime to show you a few of my rigs. I have pretty much all styles of bugnet, and they all work fine. Integrated, zip off, fronkey style, etc.

Are you anywhere near Oak Openings Metropark? If so, there a couple of nice options there for an overnighter.

They work just fine. I have both and am moving to the separate bug net mostly because my netted hammock is too short. The Fronky bug net you will see many use is just a net with an open bottom that had a cinch cord and hangs up against the bottom of your hammock/quilt.

That looks to be about an hour away from me so not too far. Have never heard of that park before
