    Thumbs down Cold Butt Syndrome

With the passing years CBS has become a big problem for me. Even at 40 degrees with a 25 degree UQ and a CCF Pad under my Butt.

Physiology explains it! At least for "Fat", and older Butts. Fatty tissue has few veins, so very little blood/heat is circulated. And we older folks have slower circulation compounding the problem.

    Fix??
    - Targeted insulation (Butt Pad?) Ordered "Bunz Warmers" to test. The same Neoprene as in my Wet Suit.
    - Chemical Warmers.
    - Hot Water Bottle. Pre-Warm CCF & UQ
    - My Wifes solution, Stay home in bed (Ain't gonna happen!!)
I THOUGHT GETTING OLDER WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER.

I'm nearly 60 and have noassatall disease and yet I've never experienced CBS. The under quilts on my Warbonnet Ridge runner fit so snug that it's virtually impossible unless it's really windy and I do not have good tarp coverage. If your 25 degree quilt isn't keeping your warm at 40 degrees it's either not a good quilt or possibly not installed correctly.

AHE Potomac, 2QZQ UQP and a CCF Pad between them under my Butt. The UQ is set close to me all over w/o compressing the insulation. I am toasty every where but my Butt!

At 60 I still had that noassatall also. At 79 I have plenty now. And it's that fat that chills.

Have you tried VB pants with or without some CCF under your butt? Or CCF with or without VB pants? 1 sq. ft of CCF in the hammock with you just under the butt. A small size pad like that might also work under the hammock, on top of the UQ.

First of all, if you're getting out and hammock camping at 79, you're my new hero!

As far as cold butt, is the UQ sagging away from the hammock and creating a pocket of dead air? I find (after Just Bill pointed it out) that's what's happening with my quilt on my bridge. It doesn't really show up as an issue until the temperatures drop into the low 30s. To combat it, I've put a CCF pad under my torso at times. One other measure that works wonders is Hot Hands chemical heating pads. One small one placed on or near my femoral artery will keep me a lot warmer. I've also placed one near the small of my back sometimes. Just that little bit of dependable heat source makes the difference.
    "...the height of hammock snobbery!"
