    Describe your mule tape suspension....

I salvaged some mule tape from my job, donated some, kept some for myself. I finally started playing around with some and really like it thus far. Simple, functional, and light. 2oz lighter than my whoopie system. I’m just using a bowline on one end to wraparound a tree, no extra straps, and a becket hitch to the continuous loop on my hammock end. What else do y’all recommend?

That is exactly what I used when on my own property. Tree straps should be used on the various public lands.

When using the straps I made a Marlin Spike Hitch, then used the mule tape as if the knot (not the toggle) was the tree.

Cool, gotcha. Yeah I thought this method may be frowned upon. It just seems like muletape would perform mostly the same as tree straps, especially if wrapped twice nice and flat. I love the thought of minimal components.

I have the 1/2 inch mule tape and it never hurt my trees, even using the same trees many times. Having said that, public lands have rules that we should obey so they do not prohibit hanging altogether. Just my humble opinion.

I just got 100' of the 3/4" tape. I love the fact that it's rated at 2500lbs. My biggest fear in using it around a tree is abrading it to badly. It's strong but I fear too soft for most tree bark. I haven't used any yet but my plan all along is to use 1" tree straps and attach the tape to that then a beckett to the CL of the hammock.

Sorry, nothing new to recommend... that’s the exact suspension I’ve used exclusively for the last year or so.
