Sorry, but a Reef Knot is a very specific knot and this ain't it! The closest description I can imagine, if the CL is viewed as a ring/object, is to call it a Slippery (some say "slipped") Girth Hitch.

If you go back to post 3 with the square (reef) knot reference photo, the blue is the continuous loop of the hammock. I don't see how anything to the left of that kNot changes what it is called. IT'S A ROPE, not a ring or object.

Call it whatever you want to. Hate it if you like. Don't change a thing you do, if you choose Knot too. I love doing it this way and it does work very well.

*sigh* Can we agree to call it something? I know it might be a bit premature, as this is something new and hasn't been tested. But it looks promising and id like to refer to it as "something".

It's not a girth hitch. Similar to a slipped girth (cow) as mentioned though. Opposite sides of the same coin compared to a reef I suppose.
I'd argue a cl acts more like a solid object because it cannot slip. Compared to a rope, that has a free end that does not bear weight.
In the hammock word, it's most similar to a Beckett hitch. Maybe keeping this a hitch for consistency is worth something.

My vote is slippery reef hitch. Or just rename it. The j bend didn't exist before J. Garcia showed it, did it? Obviously, he chose bend.

The x-bend does sound kinda cool.

I like X bend. short and sweet. ill be trying it out tonight. see if holds 300+ and still unties easy. I'll also be watching for wear and tear of rope and straps.

Wear is pretty good as long as you tuck the slip with the free end on the inside. If you do that, the strap rubs against itself and not the CL.

at my weight, most any knot on the webbing will melt it a little and make it stick to itself. I'll know after 1 night if there's any friction on the webbing.

Hefty Hanger, I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts when you get a chance to try the X bend.
