    Moisture/Condensation

    Greetings, hangers:
I use the Hennessy Jungle-Zip and have used a silver, auto windshield shade. However, I have noticed a build-up of moisture between the bag and the pad. I am considering the HH silver pad but want to avoid the moisture build-up and wet bag. Have any of you experienced this and/or come up with a solution other than the obvious nof not using the pad?

Pads often cause that condensation. One solution is to make a fleece sleeve for the pad. It helps wrangle the condensation.
You may get less moisture with an inflatable pad.
    Enjoy the journey.

Condensation is why many of us abandon pads for underquilts. There's a small minority who swear they don't get condensation with pads. However, I and all three of my kids get massive condensation with pads. My first two years I used a ccf pad, but one night it got down to 22* F, and me and my son ended up with pools of condensation in our hammocks. That was the last night I used a pad! I went out and got a 20* HG Phoenix UQ.

I would recommend jettisoning that pad and get down as it is so warm and breaths so much more than any pad.

Thank you all for the in-put! Got it. I, indeed, will get down. Getting damp is no fun! Appreciate you all and the Forum.

For several years I wrapped my pad in a flannel sheet. The Flannel was damp in the morning and SB was dry. I think your Jungle is a double layer, so I don't know what the inside hammock would be like - a little damp I think. Flannel is cotton thus it absorbs the moisture. Turn it over for the 2nd night if it isn't dry. Try it.

Option 2: You can also try wrapping fleece over your windshield pad. It will provide a barrier between the SB and the condensation.

Of course I did eventually get corrupted by this group and went to an UQ.

OK I got an Amok XL that needs a pad for structure and I'm getting the dreaded condensation I hate. I've been thinking about a perforated ccf type pad maybe 1/2" thick to put on top of the pad which would allow some breathing.

Anybody seen anything like that ... the google machine isn't coming up with anything

CCF is "Closed Cell Foam", which also doesn't "breathe" and will collect condensation. Now, the surface texture of CCF might (I don't know this for a fact) disperse moisture a bit better and promote quicker evaporation. Easy enough to test.

that's why I was looking for 'perforated' ccf pads

Like a large pad made of this ....

With the amount of vapor I've seen collect, it doesn't seem like anything would help much. Unless there was a wind blowing over the surface...but no one really wants that.
