I have a small fleece pillowcase that I stuff clothing in depending on what I have with me. I also tried a few of the inflatable ones but don't like the noise in my ears or the feel of the material on my face.
I got one of Hammock Gear's small pillows a while back and found that it's just the right size to squish down behind the back of my neck. The only problem is it's a bit slippery, so I made a pillow case for it out of an old tee shirt and it works great.
I have a WL pillow that I put under my neck and I also have a small alpine blanket made by AHE. 12" X 36" with 3 season apex insulation. I lay it on top of me pillow and it really helps keep my head warm.
Can I ask what it was that you didn't like? Not very comfortable or not the right size? I don't have any Dyneema/Cuben gear, but I've heard some folks say that it can be kind of noisy? (Or maybe that's just in the rain, when it's used as material for a tarp?)
I'm still on the fence about it, especially since I've spent a lot of money on gear over the last month or so.
The fleece did a good job of keeping the CF from making too much noise. The underside agains the hammock can make some noise but I don't remember it ever bothering me. I just didn't find it comfortable. Main issue was I don't bring much extra clothing and seems what I did bring just ended up lumpy in the bag. Stuffing clothes in a bag for a pillow isn't comfortable for me personally.
Okay, thanks. I don't generally bring much extra clothing, either, except in the winter--and I tend to sleep with almost all of that on when it's cold.
So I might have the same issue you did. I'll have to test it out using a regular stuff sack and see how much I need to put in it for it to feel comfortable.
Thanks, again!
Ooh la la. All this pillow talk's getting me excited about tonight.
