SLOVAKIA: A serious winter hit in the mountains

Weather forecast was so-so, but not a word about a strong wind. The first hike day was a nice day with distant views and blue sky. During the evening it turned inside out and the strong humid freezing wind hits our shelters. Ready for that though, as we prepared our thumbs in quite deep snow. So we went from two nights into just only one because the conditions were not hammock friendly at all.

The ascent was nice and easy, and some nice decorated landscape waiting for us to enjoy

It was a different movie in the morning. Midnight the wind started to blow at its best, turning everything white and frozen. Perfectly covered hammocks, and one could only listen to all that sounds that make you think about falling trees, branches, and snow.

Beautiful scenery! I can see what you mean about the falling branches, there is a lot of tree debris on the ground from that wind storm.

What a stunning scene! Maybe makes it worth enduring the bitter cold.

    Wow, that is awesome!

Man, if I ever do something like this I would absolutely get a winter tarp with side pullouts. That wind was really pushing them in. Nice touch on digging out and using the snow as a windbreak on photos 5 and 6. How long that take?

Blasted by winter...wished I was there, snug as a bug in a rug.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

Absolutely gorgeous location and great pictures!

I really like how you have the long axis of the hammocks and tarps aligned for two of the hammocks--I'm guessing that allowed you to move between each other's shelters? Seems like a great idea, especially in that kind of harsh weather!

Thanks for sharing those photos--really beautiful!
