The inline lights look neater (from the pictures) than hanging bulbs. Thanks for the pointer!

Here is a rather scathing review of MPOWERD by a “top 1000 reviewer” (as labeled by Amazon) from 7/15/15 (long time back). The review is for a different product, but that led the reviewer to look deeper.

1] Dave~ I would urge you to check with MPowerd's CS. My smaller Luci ["Emergency" model?] had some charging problems after a year or so. When I emailed CS they got back to me ASAP, and ended up giving me a larger one gratis [no return needed].
All these small "solar powered" devices pretty much need BRIGHT sunlight to do their do. Partly sunny/ overcast/ broken shade as the sun moves ain't gonna cut it in my own experience.

2] The best thing about the Ikea lights is that they are SO cheap you can overlook the tangly nature of the semi-stiff line... the ones I have used [not Ikea] always got kinked up pretty badly.

The Mpowered website says they weigh almost a pound, so they won't make the cut for the backpack. I'll stick to my old blow up LuciLight. I love that thing.

Here are my initial impressions. Just got it this morning so will do some testing on it after I fully charge it.

Weight is 11.3 oz. So certainly not for the ultra light hiker but for those who do base camping it works for me
Size is 5" round by 2" deep so again not for the ultra light hiker
    20 node lights over 18' 2"
4 settings for light - low, medium, and high along with a flashlight type setting
string "handle so you can hang the unit
Unit has a usb type connector at end of lights so you can charge them
    Charge indicate on main hub

They came with a charge on them so I tested them in the basement where it is dark. I could see very well with their light...or at least well enough not to trip over stuff. That was on the low setting. High was fairly bright ... I could read with it if need be.

How long it lasts remains to be seen. I am currently letting it charge in full sunlight. I will turn it on low overnight and let it set to see how long low lasts.

Bottom line is I like it for around my tarp or on my ridgeline but for my packs it will be the original Luci light because of size and weight.

Left the lights on low from 5PM yesterday to 12:30PM today = 15 hours +/-. The were still burning with 1 charge indicator light left on. That will more than meet my needs.

They were in my unheated basement so I would say between 55 and 60F

Thanks for the info. Wonder how they'd do in below freezing conditions for an extended period.
