Hi from the Deep South US

Hello all from North West Louisiana (essentially deep East Texas)! I'm trying to get into hammock camping to escape my crazy life as an IT guy and father of 4. I"ve started off with some cheaper gear from Amazon, but I've been educating myself as best I can along the way. I've seen countless Shug videos (Hi Shug!) and many others, and it seems like its a great way to relax. I'm very much looking forward to getting out in the woods and getting some well earned peace.

Beyond all videos I've watched, I'd love it if someone would hook me up with some hangers in my area so I can get some real world experience under the instruction of people who actually know what they're doing. There's only so much you can glean from a video and actually retain.

If you're from my area, send me a friend request. Lets do this thing!

Welcome to hammock forums. We have a forum for regional hangs so check that out for any hangs near your area.

I’ve heard the Louisiana hangers eat great when they gather- so be sure to watch for the group hangs. You’ll also get a chance to check out gear and see what everyone else is using.

    Welcome!

Welcome from a Georgia boy who likes the woods for the same relaxation reasoning. You're on the right track and I hope you do hook up with your local hangers. Welcome to the forums.

You are not far from Kisatchie Nat Forest. A few good trails there.

    Welcome.

Also don't forget you might meet other local hangars on this forum, youtube, regional hangs,or just by going to a popular hiking trail and talking to other hammock users.I always enjoy my experience more when with a small group or a partner.

welcome to the madness. I found that at every group hang I have attended I always gain weight.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

    Welcome SurplusFan98!

If you have time next weekend, drive down to Indian Creek Recreation Area. There is a Louisiana hang February 22-24. Check hangout section on the forum for more info.
If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else.
