    Quilt color choice

Ultimately I realize this is somewhat unimportant. But I’m stuck on choosing colors and this community is great at solving all kinds of problems great and small!

I’m going to order a set of quilts soon and I’ve settled on which ones I will order. But now I’m down to choosing colors. All of my gear is some sort of gray/brown/tan/black/dark green. I’d read something about earth tones attracting less insects. My tarp (WB Superfly) is brown and I figure that will keep most of the insects from seeing anything that’s inside my tarp so it shouldn’t matter much, right?

I realized maybe I should get a little bit of fun color in my pack and now is a good time if I can get matching quilts. However it also doesn’t match any of my other gear...

Why did you choose your quilt (or other gear) colors? Any recommendations for me?

When I realized everything was under my tarp and nobody could see it any way, I gave up on muted colors entirely. I have bright orange and purple quilts, and hammocks of all colors. I even have a camo Chameleon (but I won that in a raffle - never anything I would buy).

I use a fairly small tarp, except in winter, so my hammock & underquilt are visible. Therefore, I prefer muted, natural colors. But for my latest top quilt, I went all out on two neon, electric colors and I'm glad I did.

Dark colors dry faster in the sun, if that's a factor... which it is quite often for backpackers.

I have read that blue attracts mosquitoes. In my experience, it is true. YMMV

I have all muted colors. I want to be able to hide a bit when I am out on the trail. I don't like to attract too much attention

I go with darker color on outside and lighter on the inside. Loco Libre's quilt gallery was helpful in seeing different combinations to consider.

I prefer a bright color on the inside of an UQ so it’s more obvious if I’m going to miss sitting down in the hammock.
