I got a newsletter email from Enlightened Equipment today and they are soon going to offer 3 new tarps. They are constructed of 7d PU coated nylon, are asymmetrical cut and the weights rival cuben fiber tarp. Prices are $185-200. I have no idea how durable 7d nylon will be but it is nice to see some new choices for tarps being offered from a respected cottage manufacturer. There is information on there web site.

The horizontal seam that runs across the pull-outs is interesting. It probably adds more structure to the tarp. I could see adding line locs to the ends of these seams and go around a tree to tighten or maybe close the ends a bit. Could just slide a knot that is around both added tie outs to close the ends a little. Overall I wonder if you can ever crank this tarp down tight.
I have a 7d liner on one of my quilts and I can’t imagine it being suitable for a tarp. Maybe it depends on how much waterproof coating they add?

Gossamer Gear uses that 7D fabric on their tents and tarps. BigRed77
“Paladin” doesn't seem like a suitable name for something made out of 7D slinylon. I’m sure it's adequately sturdy, though.

Saw one of the prototypes last year. Seems like a great tarp and it's nice and light weight. However, I don't think it's worth the $180 price tag. If it were $30-50 less I would buy one instantly.
