Any one breaking the -40 degree hammock hanging record ?

Not -40* but I got a new PR last night of -29.2*

Note - I live in MN, am an experienced all season camper and always have contingency plans.

Not smart to take chances in those temps. No margin of error. If something goes wrong, you’re dead, and likely without realizing it as cognition is the first to go in those temperatures. Let’s not encourage this kind of nonsense. Someone is going to die.

Thats a lot lower than I have gotten here ( 9 degrees ) as here on the coast of NC it doesn't get much lower than that. 5 degrees is the coldest it has gotten since we moved here in 1993

I agree. However many of the hangers on this site have the proper gear to go low and know how to use it. I estimate my gear will get me to -20 but I do not think I will ever have a chance to test it at those temps.

Regardless of the warnings and signs posted at many places about the dangers at said location; folks will still do stupid things and get them selves killed. Happens on a regular basis at Yosemite.

Not me. I got 1 degree above zero F with a recorded windchill of -13. I don't think I experienced the windchill though since the wind was pretty calm by the time I got set up. LLG zero quilts, 2QZQ UQ protector, Chameleon with top cover. I wore three layers up top, pants and long johns, single wool socks with EE Apex booties. Toasty warm. I feel I didn't even push the limits of this set up. I'm hoping for another cold blast before winters over.

Shug has a video where temps hit -40, I believe.

The coldest temp I've seen was -40 in the Northern Adirondacks but I was sitting at my desk in my old, uninsulated house, listening to the heater trying to keep indoor temps above freezing.

Trivia: -40°F equals -40°C. It's the point where the scales intersect

That is the reference for breaking the -40 record. They think it was colder but as their thermometer would only register to -40, that is all they can claim.

I do think it got colder as it hit -40ºF early in the night. Usually the coldest around 5 or 6 AM.
As I laid in a bit I am sipping espresso from the hammock at -32º

In my early days of learning to BBQ, I bought a thermocouple thermometer (which is totally irrelevant to making good BBQ). The meter itself states a working range of -148*F to +2500*F. The air temp probe I have for it though only has a working range of -58*F to +662*F.

I passed on the opportunity to get out in the -26*F (-60*F windchill) in Illinois this week.

It is a mild 69 right now in Kingwood, TX as I type this. I need to get farther North to do a truly frozen butt hang. Something to look forward to.

Ya'll should have the Sweaty Butt Hang in TX with really high temps for us Northerners to come down to and sweat and try and stay cool.
Instead of lots of down UQs more battery powered fans.
