Hex Tarp Center Pole Mod

I want to add a center pole mod to my 12' Hennessy Hex. I plan to do this simple with sewing some grosgrain to the tarp and add a Beastee Dee. I don't want to get into sewing pole pockets.

There is a 1/2 inch ribbon of Grosgrain running around the bottom edge of the tarp. Could I sew only a 1/2 inch strip of Grosgrain over the original 1/2 Grosgrain? Or should I sew a larger strip maybe an additional 1/2 inch up on the tarp for a total of 1" inch to make sure it's strong enough? I'm not really worried about seam sealing it that low on the tarp.

Any opinions on what size to use? I was thinking just using 1/2 inch Beastee Dee's one for the pole and one for the tie out on the same Grosgrain loop.

I would sew a reinforcement strip on top of the edge binding being sure to capture the binding, the rolled hem (if there is one) and the tarp body. I would use 7/8" grosgrain ribbon and fold it over so it fits through a 1/2" beastie. Just check that your pole ends fit through the hole on the 1/2" ring. I know mine fit through, but it was tight. And last thing I want to do is fight with a d-ring when I am tired, cold, wet or it's dark.
