I pulled the trigger and ordered all the parts I need to make my first Gemini. I expect the various parts to all arrive this week and I will construct the Gemini this weekend with my daughter's help. Pictures and updates to follow here.

You going to space?

Yes. Yes, I am!
Due to "extreme" weather here in the midwest, I finally received the last of the components for my project today. So hopefully I will get it started this week. The down throws are much thinner thn I expected them to be. I don't know exactly what I was expecting but they just don't seem that substantial. I did cut some grossgrain the other day and melt the ends as per the instructions and that did not go as well as I hoped. The grossgrain shrivels, shrinks, and burns very quickly so I need to modify my technique. The seams on the throw also seem really tiny, and having never used a seam ripper before I am not confident. I will continue to chronicle my progress and difficulties and hoefully learn a lot.
I completed my first Gemini about a month ago (it was a Christmas present to myself!) As long as you have a proper seam ripper you shouldn't have any trouble. It's tedious and time consuming, but doesn't require much in the way of brain power. I too, was surprised by how thin the CDT's were. After ripping the seams, I think I had less than 1 inch of loft in each of the blankets. I won't be testing mine until late spring or summer.
I have taken my two layer Gemini down to below 40 degrees and was very warm. I built mine to be able to add a third layer for winter. I have taken that down to 17 degrees.
This winter I modified an Underquilt Protector to add a CDQ to it. I did this to use as a Summer Underquilt. For kicks I combined this with my three layer Gemini and took it down to -5 Degrees with no problem.
