Luck with 10' tarp and an 11' hammock?

Any of you had decent luck using a 10 foot tarp with an 11 foot hammock? On paper it works - just not a lot of wiggle room. The tarp I'm considering has doors if that makes it any difference (I'm imagining it does).

Personally, I'm familiar with having to center small, asym tarps just so. What's your experience?

You're right, it would barely give you enough coverage. With doors, it would probably work ok. However, you would likely always have to pitch the tarp low to achieve the coverage you need. Personally, I prefer more room under my tarp (I'm 6'1"). So I like to pitch it higher most of the time. An 11' tarp works well for me.

It can be done. I use one with my hammock stand. This works because all overhangs are controlled. However, being that short, it forces a low close set-up that may not support the head room that you may desire. With doors this may be ok as the ends will be closed during a rain, if it has any wind. If it is what you already have then make it work. If you're looking to buy, then you might be dissipointed in the long run and may be better off buying a different tarp. a decent good hex tarp for $30.00 is the Proventure http://www.amazon.com/d/Camping-Tent...ds=pro+venture
This is similar to the Chill Gorilla but at 3/4 the price. Here is a review on this tarp. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...x-Hammock-Tarp

Thanks for relating your experience. I have several tarps already and will likely get rid of them if I end up pulling the trigger on this tarp and just go with one for all. In the past I've never utilized a tarp height that was tall as I'm a die hard asym user. I have a hex as well, but never put it to use. So, can't miss what I've never used. I'm ok with, at this point in my life, a little stooping.

Unless there's zero chance of rain, I've always pitched my tarps low.

Why do this when an 11 will give so much more wiggle room?

Have you tried pitching the tarp on the diagonal? Only works if it's a rectangular tarp, no catenary cuts. I did this all the time with an Integral Designs SilTarp. Worked great for me. You can end up with the opposite problem, where the diagonal length is greater than the distance between your trees.

Yeah. I mean, that's why I asked if others have had luck with it. I know the limits. It may be worth, I'm thinking it is, pushing those limits, or testing them anyway because of the reasons. It may be worth picking up another hammock in 10'...
