    Hammock camping + Trail Running?

Does anyone here do trail running? Particularly in combination with (base camp) hammock camping?

I’ve recently realized that I might be able to combine these activities. There seems to be an opportunity to pack heavier and enjoy my setup a little more, and run around and see more of the trail without a heavy pack.

    Thoughts?

    there's no reason you couldn't

doesn't remotely appeal to me, but it absolutely seems like a combination that could work

I don't, but why not? I'm certainly familiar with base camp peak bagging and returning to the same spot at night.

Surprise, surprise, I'm a trail runner. However, I do not combine trail running and camping. Running with a backpack results in seriously chafed or even rubbed raw skin at the waist belt and shoulder straps for me no matter how well the pack is adjusted. Even wearing a 2-liter hydration pack is no joy so I generally don't even run with water. I'm only doing 2 or 3 miles at a time so I just camel up when I'm done with my run.

I pack in to where I want, and run from there... works great!

You trail runners should look into the Watoga State Park Mountain Trail Challenge - Half Marathon and 5K Trail Races the second Saturday in August. There's great camping (2 campsites + wilderness camping). Watoga has over 40 miles of trails, and I chose some of the most beautiful ones to make the two race courses that both start and end at Watoga's Beaver Creek Campground.

If y'all lived around here, I'd offer to help you out by packing your gear in and setting up a camp you could run to. Of course, I would also use it as an excuse to hang my own hammie. I'm not a trail runner but several of them have helped me out in the past.

Maybe try something like a Nathan Vapor or one of the other running packs. I have a Vapor and it hugs nicely, no bounce. Much better than CamelBak.

The thing I would worry about is theft of gear left at a base camp.

Yes, I trail run and hammock camp at night. I usually go from point A to Point B Generally, multi-day runs covering 100miles (2-3 days) to 200miles (5 days). I haven't done a base camp but considering it this year!
