NEW DIY Kit - Roll Top Dry Bag

Ready to try your hand at a new DIY kit?

    >> Introducing the Roll Top Dry Bag Kit w/ Dyneema Composite Fabric

This is one we've had on the list for quite some time, so we're excited to finally bring it to you!

Laser cut to exact size and printed in your choice of color, these bags are ultralight, durable, and virtually waterproof with a roll top closure...

We also made a pretty cool video to show you exactly how to make the thing:

Available in two sizes and ANY color. Enjoy!

P.S. - As always, if you have any questions or need help, just let us know. Thanks!
    - Kyle

    Hi Kyle,

Picked up my kits from your location on Thursday and getting ready to start my first roll top dry bag this morning....

there is about a 1/2 inch clear section around the edge of each blank. I am assuming that this is selvage and should be removed before starting??

    Thanks

Obviously not Kyle's response, but I put mine together last night. I would recommend cutting this off.
I made the mistake of trying to make mine with it left on and trying to squeeze every possible bit of the material into the finished size.
Once my stitches were down and I was placing the tape on, the width of the excess material and my stitch line, which I placed right on the colored part, was a MM or so beyond the width of the tape. This meant there was the possibility on not getting a good seal. So I wish I would have removed it in hindsight. Fortunately i had some spare dyneema tape from other projects, so i was able to layer this to get my desired seal.

If i were to another one i would definitely remove at least half of it, if not all.

after looking at the blank and reviewing Kyle's video, I am thinking that I would sew the vertical seam at the edge of the color and the transparent selvage (~1/2 inch) then remove half of the selvage before moving to the the bottom seam then do the same on the bottom edge before taping.

this would maximize the size of the dry bag, but not result a transparent strip on the side and bottom of the bag.

I think that's a solid plan and would end up a little more aesthetically pleasing than my finished one.

Watched the Video... So what do you do with the raw material opposite of the stiffener? Is this just left as a loose roll? He makes very clear not to sew off of the stiffener material. However it looks like he continued the sea around to sewing through just the fabric to tack down the top rolled seam. Are the written instructions clearer on this area?

Oh and great video BTW. Easy to follow, easy to watch. Very Professional.

Thanks! You continue the roll hem all the way around the perimeter. You just need to be careful not to sew off of the stiffener when sewing on the stiffener.. If that makes sense.
