Just want to add I also thought the slide show was very informative and your continual pushing of knowledge about gear options is great.

Awsome job. I really like the toggles, especially the way you have reconfigured the end so that you don't need a figure 9.

Does the line stay pretty taught with just the toggles on both ends?

Not as tight as you can get with a figure 9. You are able to get it pretty taught though. But once you get your tarp all staked out, the pitch is pretty taut. Schneider posted a thread up in the suspension forum of the no figure 9 rl that gives you back some of the mechanical advantage of the figure 9 while eliminating it. It is a copy of TeeDees idea.

Thanks that is a good idea too. I am thinking about combining several of these ideas in my next RL. I like the simplicity of yours. Maybe you can get better leverage if you swap the prussic and toggle?

Thats a great idea it would definitely give you more leverage to get a tight set up.

I milled my toggles from an old HDPE cutting board.

    • Cut 3/8" x 3/8" stips
    • Round the strip edges on a 1/4" router
    • Cut strips into 2 1/4" sections
    • Taper end edges
    • Drilled holes where needed

They came out pretty well. I also cut a couple of aluminum arrows, but I did not like them as much.
