    Field Expedient Winter Palace

Not really a palace... more like a tenement. I recently bought the JRB Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock and I'm putting it through its paces in the back woods. I love the hammock, but my current tarp is not adequate for the spreader bars. Today there are gusty winds (20 MPH plus) and the tarp was going up against the spreader bars pretty violently at times. I devised a plan:

I had an old rain fly pole that I put through the tie outs along the rake.

I needed some tension pulling it toward the tree, so I used a prusik on the tarp ridge line to give it a pull.

I only had one rain fly pole laying around, so I fashioned a field expedient pole from a small cedar that was rubbed to death by deer.

The pole mods resulted in quite a bit of clearance for the spreader bars and a good amount of additional room.

Gives it a fairly unique look.

This will have to do until I can get a new tarp with interior poles.

That'll work and looks good. It may be tough if the winds pick up though

@TrailSlug. Yes, last night the wind was blowing right through the tunnel. The snow came with it. The UQP earned its keep. Today the wind was blowing on the sides (somehow, it was alternating blowing on both sides). Nothing I can do about doors right now, but at least the sides aren't hitting the spreaders.

Yep, my first thought was: "Good job rigging the tarp to stay off of spreader bars, but I hope that is an UQP I see!". Really helps in that wind if you don't have a huge tarp, does it not?
