My warbonnet cloudburst is like a sponge

Love the tarp. Perfect for my needs, except it soaks up water like crazy. I assume its silnylon, but I bought it second hand. The only thing I'd change is the water absorption.

Any recommendations on a tarp for a ridgerunner that does not soak up water? My other tarp is cuben. That's what I really want, but...............................

Really, the only thing I'd change is how much water it absorbs. The sagging I can deal with, but packing it up so **** wet is a real pain at times.

    Thanks

I feel ya. I put up with silnylon because at the time, other than cuben fiber/DCF, it was the only game in town. After I experienced silpoly I sold my silnylon tarps. You give up a little with regard to durability, but to be able to shake your tarp dry before packing up is awesome.

Warbonnet has a Cloudburst in both 20d and 30d silpoly I believe.

I also am having issues with Silnylon. I'm glad to hear Silpoly soaks up less water. Silnylon is just not working for me.

First the rain came to thoroughly soak the tarp.

Then the cold and snow came. The snow stuck to the frozen tarp like glue.

Also going to need doors on the next one. The snow was blowing through from one end to the other.

    Glad I'm not alone

I'm not camping in the snow, but packing that wet mess up isn't for me. I stay perfectly dry, but if there's a solution to this first world problem I'm on it.

If you like everything about it other than the water absorption, maybe sell the one you have and put whatever you can get from the sale toward a new one in 20D Silpoly.

They're customizable so you can get one longer than 11' if you wish, too.

Maybe treat your current tarp with nikwax waterproofer?

Cuben has been the only tarp I've used to not wet out. My old superfly was a sponge as well. Added a lb of water off a foggy morning in RRG. Didnt even rain but I was squeezing water out of my tarp loading back into the car.

Unfortunately, cuben was my only answer to my issues. Those other tarps can hold some weight in water.

That's sorta what I'm afraid of finding out. Finding it difficult to hold back my itchy paypal finger

I think that's what I'll likely end up doing.

I have noticed a little water absorption with my silnylon Mambajamba. I'll probably buy a silpoly Thunderfly and sell the Mambajamba. That Thunderfly may be the perfect tarp (for me). Perhaps I'll have a glass of liquid persuasion tonight and pull the trigger!

I tried one of these silNylon tarps and like you didn't care for the sponge like quality. I now use a SimplyLightDesigns 12ft Winter Haven with my Warbonnet Ridgerunner and I really like this tarp. I use this tarp on 90% of my trips.
