    Costco Topquilt Stuffing

I'm planning to make a top quilt from the Costco down throw. I want to cut off two rows on the long side so it's not so wide, and use a 4x2 section for the bottom of the foot box. Before cutting off the rest of the side, I'll pick out the vertical stitching and shake the down into the rest of the quilt. But because I'm using a section for the foot box With its down, four rows of the main quilt won't have the extra down from those squares.

So, my question is: Do I put those four rows of slightly less warmth at the head or foot end of my top quilt?
    Thanks.

After making my own, I would put the less down part at the top. The reason is that there is a lot of extra fabric for me at the top and my feet get cold first.
If I make another, I will add a little bit extra down in the footbox.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I would second this. Also, I just made a couple more CDT top quilts last night and used some down from an extra one I had to stuff a pinch of extra down into each chamber. Holy cats, what a mess! I can't imagine how commercial down gear gets made in any quantity! I got down in my nose, breathed some in my mouth and coughed/gagged for 10 minutes. Perhaps theybhaveba vacuum sealed room and breathing apparatus, but it was the stuff of nightmares. I will likely find feathers floating around the house for years to come!

Yeah, after conducting lots of "research" on every "how to transfer down" thread that I could find I thought I had it all figured out. Everything was going well UNTIL I accidently had the shop vac on "blow" instead of "suck" & turned it on just as I inhailed. My wife was amused, at first- laughing hysterically as I choked, gagged, gasped, and waited to pass out & "go toward the light". Her smile vanished in a flash, though, once realized how fast & far feathers had spread. That's definately one genie that you can't put back in the bottle!
Enjoying my fall into the rabbit hole...

I recommend using a shop-vac with a homemade down separator chamber. All you need is a clear bucket with a secure lid and an extra vacuum hose.

Thanks Floridahanger and Billy Goat. That's just what I wanted to know.
And I'll try to make extra sure to keep the down confined at all times.

I always wear a dust mask when handling down.
