    Hello from Lake Tahoe

What’s up all you fine people

I jumped headfirst into the hammock game so here I am.

I woke up one day and decided I wanted to get into backpacking with a hammock. I have a nice tent and everything but the last few times my back hurt in the morning. I guess I’m getting old. So I started researching and watching videos, next thing you know, I have a 11’ SLD wide tree runner in 1.9 with side tie outs, adjustable ridgeline, HG tarp and some Dutch bling on the way.

Theres so much to learn about hanging a piece of fabric between 2 trees

Welcome to the hobby. I guess you have extra long straps for the mammoth trees you have out West!

    Funny you should mention that

I got the suspension kit and I was thinking 6’ doesn’t seem very long for the strap. It will be fine most of the time though.

we do have some huge trees. No doubt about it. I’ve seen some redwoods and sequoias that blew my mind.

Hey there Forbin. I use a variety of tree strap setups, but here in the eastern USA, most trees can be accomodated with 12-15 foot straps. Some of those really large western sequoias you'd need something extremely long huggers to go around. I use straps, beetle buckles and or various hitches for suspension. Favorite of mine is Dutch Ware Gear Spiderweb 2.0 and using the marlin spike hitch or the becket hitch. The UHMWPE straps are sort of too slippery for using beetle buckles, so I use the hybrid poly/dyneema straps for the Dutch suspension bling.

Welcome Forbin! You'll be getting a lot more of that dutch bling, trust me. HAHA. Happy hanging!
