===> Welcome Michael! You will be warmly welcomed by this suspicious bunch! Several other riders/packers/fat tire folks here as well! You can get to try several makes and models of hammocks, and see lots-o-Bushcrafty things. Be prepared to eat like a Knight all weekend! (Who was the roundest Knight at King Arthur's table?

    Glad to have ya along!

Plenty of people will be there to talk your ear off about both bikepacking and hammocks.

Good to hear! I've got tons of experience bike packing and none hammocking. I bought a couple hammocks to add to my bike packing setup. Going light and low-bulk is important along with good recovery sleep. Hoping to reduce my kit while getting better sleep.

I've heard good things about these group hangs so I'm dropping in to check it out.

The Lovely elfLiza and I have bought a home up on a mountainside 1800' above Columbus, NC and we will be gone from New England within 30 days.

This means I will probably have to miss this years hangs with yous'n's... We topped our budget, so long trips are gonna have to get second [mebbe tenth] place in our planning for a while.
However, we do get this view....

Ignore the wine decanter... I'm still safe and boring. They "staged" the house. This view is from the second floor, same view downstairs but out more windows. And we get all the furniture.
Group Hang Columbus, NC. Dates to be announced................

Just kidding. Congrats Ted and Liza. That looks like a beautiful piece of property. You are leaving, however, arguably, one of the most beautiful states in the Union by leaving Maine. NC isn't bad though. I used to live in Jacksonville.

Please check in on the Forums periodically and keep us posted as to how things are going.

    All the best !

    Michael,

Glad you're going to be able to come. That's great. As for your untested setup, no worries. Between everyone at the hang, if some of your kit doesn't work out, there are plenty of extras of anything that you might need including extra hammocks, tarps, overquilts, underquilts, etc....... Most importantly come and enjoy the fun. (I'll point out the ones that you should be concerned about. I usually do that in inverse order of when they were released from jail or prison.)

    Look forward to meeting you.

What could possibly go wrong with going into the woods with a bunch of people (who really love their knives) you met online? I guess the plus of HP is that cell phones still work...

Camp Lejeune is not in NC, it's in the USMC !

And the Columbus NC Group Hang is a distinct possibility

Yeah, the cell phones work, but the exceptionally long response time from the PoPo has always been on our side.
