Getting an 11 x 10 Tarp to make doors

    Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 11.13.01 AM.png

Many moons ago I bought a Jacks R Better 11 x 10 Tarp with the intention of being able to close off the end as doors. I'm trying to attach a picture I found showing the type of tarp in the "door configuration". I have tried to set up the tarps to get this configuration for years and I have yet to be able to make it work. Can someone give me a step by step guide on how to make this work? Or better yet, does anyone know of a video showing how to do it? Many thanks in advance for any help y'all can provide.

If the tarp wasn't manufactured with doors which this tarp wasn't, then you can't set it up this way. The cut of the tarp has to have been cut to include doors. In other words if you want doors you have to order a tarp with doors or add then as a separate add on.

You need 5 tie outs along each side. The middle one you may not have to use. Stake down the first tie out in from each corner. Then fold in the corners toward the opening which will be the doors. On mine it makes for a very tight and steep set-up, and the doors do not quite meet, but it works pretty well.

    Edit: this is a 10 x 10 Etowah tarp.

Another option is to get a set of Grizz Beaks from 2QZQ

The JRB 11x10 tarp has to be set up with the ridge running the 10’ length to close the ends off as doors. The 10’ edge has 4 ties outs, while the 11’ wide only has 3 with catcuts. If you look at the pic, you will see that the sewn center seam is running perpendicular to how most tarps are run.

When I built me own 11x10, I put 4 tie outs on the 11’ sides, so that I could cover an 11’ hammock, while folding the ends in as doors.

Kitsap cowboy did something similar with his, I think he called it cat tangle tarp, that was 12x10

I don't know how your tarp is designed.. IE where and how many tie out points you have.

In order to do what you are illustrating you need to add another pair of ground tie outs inboard of the corners. You will use those as your primary ground points and fold in what would normally be your corner tie out to creat a pseudo door. It works, but what you end up with is a REALLY small enclosure.

Check this vid... Fast forward to 9:38 if you want to see just the 'door' setup.

I should tell you.. I've tried this back when I had a WB Mamajamba. I hated it. But in a pinch it worked as expected. Ultimately, I made a set of Grizz Beaks for that tarp (an later sold the whole kit for a tarp with doors.. and later sold THAT kit and made DIY'd two more tarps.. one with doors and one without). The Grizz Beaks are super easy. Click the picture below if you want a template and some DIY pics.

Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Grizz beaks are definitely a pretty easy project and work very well. here are a couple pics from of my beak (just one end) at my camp out yesterday.
