    Hanging with a Ridgeback

Last day off before I go back on patrol. Wife and Daughter in California. Hung up the XLC between two Mesquites for some me time. That didnt work. My Rhodesian, Gabriel, had no regard. Started snoring within a minute. Im glad this is a double layer. Im 6'3 240, he is 85. We both got a nap in eventually and not too uncomfortable actually.

Does he have a ridge? My female does not but still full blooded ridgeback. She loves my hammock but 99% of the time her feet are muddy!!!

No he is Ridge-less. Comes from 2 Grand Champions. I also have a female the same. The breeders are telling me they are at 10% ridge-less in the breed now, and its getting worse as time goes on. They say the African ridge dog is being bred out of the line slowly. Their siblings went for $2500 and up, I can say I got these a whole lot cheaper under contract to fix them. Best dogs ive ever had, and Ive had a bunch, dont need the ridge. This is my daughters female livernose Ridge-less. Just a pup, with a lot of skin to grow into.

Small world! I am very fortunate to own 17 acres she can run on. Loves exploring while I sit by the campfire. Never too far away and always comes back to check on me every 15 minutes or so. Always by my side unless I'm at work.

The movement of the hammock doesn't phase her at all. My big dog, Great Dane/ Rottweiler, hates anything that moves under her. Rocking chair, car rides, hammock, ect.

    better picture of my Julia,

Awwww, I love the ridgeback breed history. Taking down a lion in the wild sounds like an incredible feat. I had no idea they were so expensive.

I rescued Julia from the S.P.C.A at 15 months old. Whomever had her before trained her very well. We were told she was a Viszla by them but the Petco lady who trimmed her nails corrected us.

The Rotterdane(Xena) barks at everything that moves outside. I think it's the Rottweiler in her. We ignore it. If Julia starts barking, someone is on the property, And not likely someone we know. Another thing about ridgebacks is the way they bite. like an alligator their jaw snaps shut, hard! When rough housing she chomps her teeth together making pain full sounding cracks. Of the two, Julia is the deadleir dog.
