Fabricating a hang structure in a tree treeless yard

I too have a strong desire for the telephone pole solution. I have heard that the power company replaces poles long before the end of their useful life and is eager to find people willing to take them. I have not pursued this route but if anyone else has any insight I'd be interested to hear about it.

I work for a power company and we cut up old poles all the time. It would be worth ans ask for sure.

My current post height is 6' and the bottom of the 2x4 is just less than 5'6" (next time I'm certain that it will be higher than my forehead.) My 2x4 was 14' and it's buried a couple of inches in each post ... without measuring, distance between posts is about 13'8". My favorite tarp is 12'x10' and has a diagonal of 15'8". If I were doing it again I'd go 16' or more.
