Which is the right side of material ?

I not to long ago finished sewing a tarp out of 1.1 oz silpoly and I was told either side is OK that there is no difference. I looked at it and cannot see a difference.

Now I am sewing a tarp out of 1.1 oz Silpoly PU4000 and there is a shiny side and a duller side. one side you can clearly see the ripstop treads and the other side looks like its coated.

Is the coated side the inside and the side that you can see the ripstop the outside.

    Thanks

The shiny side is the outside for PU coated fabrics.

Just to confirm, you are calling the shinny side the coated side. Both sides have a sheen to them

shinny coated side to outside , duller side that you can see the ripstop pattern better to inside

I would have guessed the coating goes inside, protected from sun damage.

I am not a DIYer but, all my technical fabric outerwear, Gortex, Event ect, has the waterproof layer bonded inside the durable fabric outer layer.

I just checked my non-DIY tarp (coated Etowah) and the coating is on the inside.

    From the RBTR website:
“This fabric has distinct shiny (PU4000) and matte (sil/PU) sides. It is recommended to put the matte side facing out and shiny side facing inwards. If seam sealing, we recommend using a PU sealant such as Seam-Grip on the PU4000 side of the fabric.”
